Multiple Functionalization of Nanostructures of Diblock Copolymers Synthesized by RAFT Polymerization |

We demonstrate multiple functionalization of nanostructures using functional block copolymers. First, we synthesized block copolymers having a precursor block of activated esters by reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. Then, block copolymers containing different functionalities were obtained from RAFT block copolymers with the precursor block. With thiol-functionalized block copolymers, selective incorporation of nanoparticles was induced. The nanostructure was also functionalized with organic dyes. Then, with a blending strategy of two functional block copolymers which have the same basic chemical structure for each block, simultaneous incorporation of nanoparticles and organic dyes to nanostructures of block copolymers was demonstrated. Coupling effects between nanoparticles and organic dyes were observed because of their confinement in the nanometer-sized domains. |
