In order to develop high efficiency organic photovoltaic materials that exhibit promising electronic properties, electroactive small molecules have recently received attention as alternatives to polymers. A novel class of donor-acceptor type small molecules for electron donating active layers for bulk-heterojunction solar cells were synthesized and investigated. The thermal, optical and electronic properties of the molecules were examined by themogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), UV-vis absorption, and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The synthesis, characterization and photovoltaic properties of low band gap small molecules will be discussed. |
