Colloidal Gold Nanoparticle Formation Derived from Self-Assembled Cyclodextrin/Au Salt Complex |

We present a procedure for the formation of colloidal gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) derived from the self-assembled cyclodextrin (CD)/Au salt complex without the necessity for additional reducing or stabilizing agent. The complex serves as a solid template for the formation of Au seeds by solid-state thermal treatment within the confining environment of the CD, i.e., the matrix of the complex. Subsequently, thermally treated complex is placed into an aqueous medium without further treatment and Au seeds are nucleated for the formation of CD-stabilized AuNPs at room temperature. The resulting AuNPs are spherical in morphology and possesses excellent stability.Furthermore, the AuNP size is tunable by simple changing the Au salt concentration within the CD solid matrix. |
