Distyrylstilbene oligoelectrolyte assembly in unilamellar vesicles |

We synthesize the distyrylstilbene oligoelectrolyte that can be used to increase the efficiency of microboial fuel cells. Distyrylstilbene oligoelectrolyte consist of distytylstilbene backbone and quatenary amine. This conductive oligoelectrolytes can be located into the lipid bilayer by their structural characteristics at right angle to the surface of the cell membrane and play a role as a route for electrons to be transported from the inside to the outside of membrane cells. The main chain of styrylbenzene electrolytes was synthesized from phosphonates and benzaldehydes by Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons reaction, followed that tail ends of alkyl chain were converted into quatenary amine. We modified membranes based on phospholipid vesicles and measured UV absorbance, photoluminescence spectroscopies and zeta-potential to confirm the incorporation of the synthesized oligoelectrolytes into the membrane and the role as molecular wires. |
