Recently, the use of cellulose as reinforcements and/or fillers in the manufacture of polymer/cellulose composites has attracted great interest from academia as well as from industries because of low density, low cost and environmentally benign nature. However, thermodynamics between polymer molecules in melt state and cellulose is not sufficiently favorable. A lot of researches have been carried out to investigate surface modification of cellulose to improve the compatibility between the fiber and polymer matrix. In this study, cellulose acetate was chosen for the improvement of the compatibility between ABS and cellulose. Effect of the incorporation of the cellulose on the mechanical properties of ABS/cellulose composites was explored. |
