Newly modified poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) was synthesized for the application to bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells. The regio-regularity (RR) of the polythiophenes was controlled by methacrylate functional group in ends of the polymer chain. By irradiating UV light, the acrylic group was cross-linked as determined by the isothermal photo-DSC and FT-IR study. Simultaneously, the RR was modified depending on the degree of cross-linking, as determined by X-ray diffraction. The organic solar cells were fabricated to show that the degree of RR was critical to the photovoltaic cell efficiency and stability. |
