Synthesis of Novel Water-Soluble Polyfluorene Derivatives and Application to Single Component Non-Volatile Memory Devices |

Water solubility of conjugated polymers may offer many applications. Potential applications of water-soluble conjugated polymers include the light-emitting diode and bio- or chemo-sensors. We synthesized neutral polyfluorene derivatives containing bromo-alkyl terminal groups by the palladium catalyzed Suzuki coupling reaction. Bromo-alkyl terminal groups in neutral polyfluorenes were quaternized by trimethyl amine solution. The characterization, optical and electrochemical properties of novel cationic water-soluble polyfluorene derivatives are discussed. Non-volatile memory devices were fabricated by spin-coating using novel water-soluble polyfluorene derivatives, which were used as an active layer. We also investigated the device performance of single component non-volatile polymer memory devices using these polymers. Operating voltage was from -3.0 to 4.0, on/off current ratio between on- and off- state was about 3 orders of magnitude and was not reduced during one thousand cycles. |
