Artificial marbles are used in many ways these days. Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and aluminum hydroxide (ALH) are the chemicals most widely used in this production process. Nowadays, higher mechanical properties are needed in the higher value-added artificial marbles. Graphite nanoplatelets (GNPs) are nanoparticles with a plate-like structure, which renders them ideal as fillers for reinforced polymer nanocomposites. GNPs form the high surface area and satisfy the high aspect ratio criterion needed for high mechanical strength of composites. In addition, GNPs are one of the strongest materials per unit weight. Therefore, GNPs deserve the potential reinforcement for high strength materials due to layered morphology and light weight. In this study, GNPs were filled in PMMA/ALH composites to improve mechanical properties. |
