Lithium-ion batteries have been spotlighted as energy storage devices in a wide range of applications due to their low price, long life and high energy density. In recent years, with the advent of electric vehicles, the demands for higher energy density and longer lifespan has been required. Current carbon-based anode materials have limitations due to their low theoretical and volumetric capacity. In order to replace the low carbon-based anode, research has been reported on bismuth. Bismuth has a low theoretical specific capacity but has a high volumetric capacity but high volume expansion. In addition, bismuth has higher electrical conductivity but has a lower electrical conductivity. In this study, nano-sized bismuth and carbon composites were synthesized. Nano-sized bismuth reduces the diffusion path for lithium and carbon shell captures the volume expansion and compensate the bismuth's lack of electrical conductivity. |
