제목 Supercritical Fluid Fractionation for Citrus Oil Processing
초록 Two techniques, countercurrent extraction process and cyclic adsorption/desorption process, were developed for the fractionation of citrus oils. Citrus oils consist of terpenes, oxygenated aroma compounds, waxes, and pigments. The oxygenated aroma compounds are desired to be concentrated by removing terpenes. We have applied a countercurrent extractor with supercritical carbon dioxide for orange oil, lemon oil, and bergamot oil processing. Both semi-batch mode and continuous mode were studied. By applying temperature gradient along the column, oxygenated compounds were successfully concentrated. Plant simulator was applied to predict the separation performance. As a cyclic adsorption/desorption process, a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process with supercritical carbon dioxide coupled with extraction process was developed with silica gel as adsorbent. Deterpenation and dewaxing of cold-pressed orange oil and bergamot oil were demonstrated. Waxes and pigments were removed at the bottom of the extraction column and oxygenated aroma components were concentrated into the effluent in the desorption step.
