Synthesis of Novel Zwitterionic Water-soluble Polyfluorene Derivatives |

Water-soluble conjugated polymers have been extensively investigated due to their environmentally friendly water-soluble nature and their ability to form multilayer with organic soluble conjugated polymers. Consequently, many water-soluble conjugated polymers have been used in a variety of applications such as DNA-sensors, photovoltaic cells, emitting layers and electron injecting layers in polymer light-emitting diodes. We synthesized water-soluble polyfluorene derivatives containing cationic ammonium and anionic sulfonate ions by the palladium catalyzed Suzuki coupling reaction. Characterization of these novel zwitterionic conjugated polyelectrolytes based on the polyfluorene structure is discussed. We also investigate the electrochemical and optical properties of zwitterionic water-soluble polyfluorene derivatives. |
