In this study, we have investigated the synthesis, characterization and photovoltaic application of A-D-A type small molecules bearing Benzothieno[2,3-b]benzothiophene (BTBT) and Diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) units. BTBT and DPP, heteroarene-fused coplanar rings induce strong π-π stacking that ensures good charge-carrier mobility. The extended π-conjugation system of BTBT is expected to afford strong intermolecular orbital overlap and electron-donating properties by utilizing favorable “push-pull” architecture. Electron-deficient and strongly absorbing properties of DPP fragments have previously been utilized to lower the band gap in molecular OPV donor systems. Bulky alkyl chains are introduced because of enhanced solubility. Device will be fabricated with various solution based spin-coated process with [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM). |
