Plasma-Surface-treatment of nylon fiber for water-repellency improvement by low pressure RF plasma discharge processing |

It has been reported that only the surface properties of the plasma treatment were changed while maintaining the properties of the bulk. In this study, surface modification of nylon with high water-repellency was obtained by plasma treatment. Mophological changes as a result of low pressure plasma treatment were observed using scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and atomic force microscopy(AFM). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and fourier transforms infrared spectrometry (FT-IR) have been used to study the chemical effect of gas speciouse. Moreover, the mechanical properties were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) and tensile strength. The high water-repellency property of nylon fiber was evaluated by spray test of AATCC 22 standard under various condition of aging effect. These results shown that the water-repellency of plasma-surface-treated nylon fiber was improved better than the one of raw nylon fiber. |
