The work comprehensibly establishes the potential of multi-bilayered self-assembled nanostructures in mimicking the natural cell membrane. To affirm the efficacy of this multi-bilayered self-assembled nanostructured film in delivering various biological payloads into cells through the fusogenic process, we resorted to gene delivery as an evaluation tool. The work successfully demonstrated the favorable interaction between phosphorylcholine-rich nanostructured film and polyplexes, improved cell proliferation, efficient intracellular internalization of plasmid DNA, as confirmed by Surface Plasmon Resonance Spectroscopy (SPR), and Z-stack micrograph. A phosphorylcholine-rich self-assembled polymeric nanostructure was proved to follow the micropinocytic and caveolae-mediated nondegradative endocytic pathways. |
