Inorganic metal nanoparticles for tissue engineering and anticancer treatment |

Various types of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have been used for biomedical applications. In this presentation AuNPs that can be used for controlling cellular behaviors and destroying cancer will be introduced. Our AuNPs was designed to deliver metal ions into the cells to improve neuronal differentiation without cytotoxicity. Low pH condition of the endosomes could trigger in situ release of Mn ion from the AuNPs after cellular uptake of AuNPs, since our AuNPs were designed to release Mn ions in pH-responsive manner. The other type of AuNP was designed to form aggregates in pH-sensitive manner. pH-aggregative AuNPs were delivered into the mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) through endocytosis to enhance the tumor-targeting efficiency and photothermal effect of AuNPs. Intravenously injected pH-aggregative AuNPs-laden MSCs significantly improved anti-cancer effect based on the enhanced tumor-targeting efficiency and heat generation compared to the conventional AuNP injections. |
