Petroleum pitch was activated by combination of a chemical oxidation with different H2O2 concentrations, 5, 15, and 25 wt% and a chemical activation with KOH at a constant KOH/pitch ratio of 3/1 to develop high-porous activated carbon electrode materials for electric double-layer capacitors (EDLC). The structure and textural properties of the pitch and the final activated carbons (ACs) were investigated using XRD, FT-IR, XPS, N2-adsorption, SEM, and TEM measurements. The performance of the ACs in 6 M KOH solvent was measured with cyclic voltammetry, constant-current charge/discharge cycling, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). |
