The recent outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has quickly spread worldwide since its discovery in Wuhan, China in December 2019. A novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2), which is closely related to SARS-CoV, was caused the SARS-like viral pneumonia, milder illness, and asymptomatic infection. Diagnostic testing to identify the virus-infected persons plays a role in controlling the globlal pandemic of COVID-19. In the presentation, current diagnostic tests and their new role for diagnosing emerging and new infections will be introduced. Also, we introduce the current array of tests for SARS-CoV-2, highlight gaps in current diagnostic capacity, and propose potential solutions. |
