Halloysite nanotubes (HNT) are used as nanofiller for biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA) nanocomposites, in which the PLA/HNT blends were fabricated via a melt blending method by using a Brabender (W50EHT) at a range of different nanofiller contents (1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 wt%). Melt blending processing was employed at temperature of 210 oC. Effect of the PLA/HNT blends on their thermal and mechanical properties were investigated by various techniques via a thermo gravimetric analysis and universal testing machine, respectively, while morphological characteristics were examined by transmission electron microscope. Its melt rheological characteristics like steady shear rotation and oscillation testing were further investigated using a rotational rheometer. Steady shear viscosity increased with the higher contents of HNT, and the flow curve data were fitted well with the Carreau model. |
