Towards long-cycle life zinc-bromine flow batteries: Suppressed zinc dendrite growth using defective carbon electrode |
초록 |
Among various redox flow batteries (RFBs), several hybrid RFBs have adopted Zn anodes to substitute for lithium anodes because of non-flammable, being operable in aqueous electrolytes and high specific capacity (820 mAh·g-1). However, no single zinc based RFBs has met cycle-life targets required for successful EES implementation due to internal short-circuit induced by dendritic growth of Zn at high current densities. To alleviate Zn dendrite, here, we report defected carbon layer coated carbon felt (D-CF) electrode that was prepared from zeolitic imidazole frameworks. The extraordinary dendritic suppression effects validated by density functional theory simulations with mathematical metal growth model. Consequently, the zinc-bromine flow batteries (ZBBs) assembled with the prepared D-CF shows 5,000 cycles at 100 mA·cm-2, which represents the best performance for ZBBs. |
