제목 | Flexible Plastic Display Based on LCP / LC Blends |
초록 | We prepared and characterized a series of LC polyoxetanes containing varying amount of the mesogenic 4-decyloxy-4’-cyanobiphenyl pendent and nonmesogenic propoxy group. Miscibility of the homo- and copolyoxetanes with E7 also was studied. The LC properties of the LCP / E7 mixtures were unique in that, although E7 is a nematic mixture, all the LCP / E7 mixtures form layered smectic mesophase. Among the mixtures, the composition of 30 wt.% of LCP bearing 16 mole % of the mesogenic pendant and 70 wt. % E7 formed smectic phase over a broad range (-70 ~ 35 °C) of temperature, although the isotropization temperature of LCP itself was below room temperature. A flexible plastic display was constructed utilizing this mixture and its display characteristics were thoroughly evaluated. For a device of 10 μm thick active layer threshold voltage was about 30 V and exhibited a switching response time of 200 ms. The most remarkable observation made was that the blends revealed excellent memory behavior, suggesting that they can find usages in various application such as e-papers and books in addition to display applications. |
