Fabrication and characterization of DTBP Cross-linking PMMA/PCL fibrous scaffolds |

Electrospinning has been used as simple and effective method to fabricated fibers with diameters ranging from micrometer to nanometer size. This process supplies high voltage to the tip of a syringe containing polymer solution and the fibers were collected by a metallic collector. The collected fibers generated 3D porous mats which can be applied in tissue engineering. It has high porosity and interconnectivity which can provide appropriate environment for favorable cell-material interactions. In this work, polycaprolactone (PCL) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) were used to fabricate a scaffold for tissue engineering applications. PCL and PMMA solutions were mixed depending on various ratios and their microstructure and mechanical properties were evaluated. Dimethyl 3, 3-dithiobispropionimidate (DTBP) was used as chemical cross-linking agent to improve mechanical properties of the polymer. Crosslinked and uncrosslinked PMMA/PCL scaffolds were investigated by SEM. Tensile test was done to evaluate the mechanical property of the samples. Chemical properties were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and FT-IR and contact-angle. Biological properties were investigated using cell attachment studies using L-929 fibroblast cell. |
