A series of flexible, tansparent barrier films have been synthesized for moisture-sensitive display application such as organic light emitting display (OLED). Thin barrier films of organic-inorganic hybrid materials of 3-acryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane and 4,4’-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphenol were synthesized by non-hydrolytic sol-gel reaction, which was performed at 80oC, and followed by thermal condensation and elimination of methanol as a byproduct. Crack-free and thick films were produced by spin-coating without high volume shrinkage during further treatment of the films. The completion of sol-gel reaction was confirmed by FT-IR, and the surface roughness and topology of the films were examined by AFM. The mechanical properties of flexibility, toughness and adhesion, together with barrier properties of oxygen permeation rate and vapor permeation rate were successfully tailored by varying the composition of the components to meet the needs of specific display applications. |
