Layered silicates have been widely used in various fields such as adsorption, catalysis, and fabrication of nanocomposites. Several layered silicates have channel systems or open frameworks within layers, and can be applied for permselective barrier. Therefore, permselective property of layered silicate can be used as methanol barrier in direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). Herein, layered silicate AMH-3 was synthesized by the hydrothermal reaction, and then AMH-3 was modified via the acid treatment. AMH-3 and acid-treated AMH-3 were characterized by XRD, FE-SEM, 29Si MAS NMR, and FT-IR. In addition, AMH-3/polyelectrolyte multilayered composite membranes were prepared using layer-by-layer self-assembly (LBL) with various LBL cycle numbers. The methanol permeability and proton conductivity decreased with increasing number of LBL cycle. In accordance with these results, it was confirmed that the selectivity parameter of the five-cycle multilayered composite membrane had the highest value. |
