Toward High Efficiency Photovoltaics with Enhanced Long-term Stability Utilizing Block Copolymer Additives |

Organic Solar Cells (OSCs) have drawn extensive attention due to huge potentials such as low cost and flexibility, but remain relatively low in power conversion efficiency, typically 3% for a cell based on a blend of poly 3-hexylthiophene (P3HT) and phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM). In this study, we demonstrate the enhanced performance of the OSCs by manipulating the morphology of P3HT:PCBM active layer using P3HT-b-P3PHT block copolymer as surfactant. The block copolymer reduces surface roughness and microphase separation between P3HT and PCBM which improves the power conversion efficiency up to 3.6%. In addition, devices using P3HT-b-P3PHT block copolymer exhibit long-termed operating lifetime at high temperature which remains cell’s performance for 5 h at 150°C. |
