New structured colloids were prepared by evaporation-induced self-assembly of block copolymer inside droplet. Symmetric block copolymers inside emulsion were assembled into onion-like structures due to the confining geometry and interfacial assembly with surfactant. Then, by adding homopolymers in emulsion phase with block copolymers, we have succeeded in controlling the morphologies inside particles from lamellar to cylinders and spheres. Depending on particle size, we found that morphologies were dramatically changed inside block copolymers. Furthermore, by changing the type of surfactant or mixture, both of particle shapes and internal structures were controlled which include disk-like particles with well-ordered cylinders or ellipsoidal particles with lamellae or golf-ball like particles with sphere domains. Finally, we could produce various types of composite particles by introducing quantum dots, metallic precursors, which may be useful in metamaterials or display applications. |
