Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) with bulk heterojunction (BHJ) architecture attract scientific and industrial interest due to their significant advantages. Low band gap conjugated polymers with proper energy levels for charge transfer are required to achieve high-efficiency polymer solar cells. We have synthesized new semiconducting polymers with 3-(hexyloxy)thiophene, 2,2-dihexyl-2H-benzimidazole (HBI) and thiophene units was synthesized using Stille polymerization. The spectra of the solid films show absorption bands with maximum peaks at about 408526nm and the absorption onsets at 550692 nm, corresponding to band gaps of 1.792.25 eV. Under white light illumination (AM 1.5 G, 100mW/cm2), the device with PHOTDTHBI-3:PCBM blend demonstrated a VOC of 0.36 V, a JSC of 1.20mA/cm2, and a FF of 0.37, PCE of 0.16%. |
