Development of efficient photovoltaic cells for renewable solar energy has been of great interest as it relates to the worldwide concerns of climate change and energy security. Solar cells based on organic materials have substantial potential for future application s due to the low cost in both materials and device fabrication. Recently, solution-processable solar cells using soluble organic dyes have attracted great attention for their numerous attractive features, i.e., high light absorption, tunable optoelectronic properties, high carrier mobility, and excellent stability. To develop suitable molecular donors for high device performance, a promising approach is to incorporate highly light absorbing dyes with functional groups designed to contribute to solubility, light absorption, molecular self-assembly, and carrier mobility. Here we report our efforts in exploring a new class of molecular donor materials based on organic pigments of quinacridone and bodipy. |
