To improve the power conversion efficiency of organic solar cell, the low band gap donor materials which absorb wide range of solar spectrum are needed. Recently, research into electron donor-acceptor type materials has become quite active as a synthetic strategy to make low band gap materials. In this study, cyanine dyes which contain electron donor-acceptor pair are synthesized and used as low band gap donor materials. Because of their wide range of absorption spectrum which expanded to NIR region, the high short circuit current of organic photovoltaic cells is expected. The Aggregation property of cyanine dyes can make small molecular organic solar cells as bulk- heterojunction structures. We make organic solar cells using these cyanine dyes and observed photovoltaic behavior. |
