The gas diffusion layer (GDL) of the fuel cell played an important role in water management since humidification and water removal are both achieved through the GDL. Various numerical models developed to illustrate the multiphase flow and transport in the fuel cell. The accuracy of these models depended on the accurate measurement of the GDL properties such as wettability, surface energy, and porosity. In this work, GDL with a micropore for polymer electrolyte fuel cell was prepared by activation of PAN-based carbon fiber cloths, to enhance their textural properties, such as surface area, pore volume, and pore size. GDL with activated PAN-based carbon fiber cloths had presented superior performances over the single-layer in all three polarization (activation, ohmic and concentration) controlled regions under electrochemical characterizations. |
