Humidity-responsive 1D photonic crystal polymer films |

In this study, photo-crosslinkable high refractive index polymer and low refractive index polymer were synthesized by free radical polymerization. 1D photonic crystal polymer (1DPC) thin films were prepared by simple alternating spin-coating of high/low refractive polymers. Photonic stop band(PSB) of 1D PC films could be controlled through the entire visible range by modulation of the thickness of each layers. In addition, the PSB of films could be tuned by in-situ quaternization of various alkyl hilide and aromatic halide without additional coating-fabrication. Exposing quaternized 1D PC film to relative humidity(RH) from 10 to 100%, the color of films was rapidly changed from violet to red and returned to the original state instantly after exposure to air. Real-time reflectance changes of the films were analyzed by UV-visible spectrometer. |
