3-Mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane–ethanol solution treated nitrile butadiene rubber/nanodiamond (NBR/ND) polymer nanocomposites were prefabricated in-situ by a novel environmentally friendly one-pot design. The ND and modified nanodiamond (MND) were characterized by using wide angle XRD, FT-IR, TEM, an adsorption analyzer, TGA, and XPS. The results show that the pristine ND is provided not only with high specific surface area, but also with abundant active organic groups, especially hydroxyl and carboxyl groups, which confirms the hydrophilic properties of ND. The morphology of the fracture surfaces of nanocomposites are studied by HR-SEM. The dynamic rheological properties of nanocomposites were characterized by rubber processing analyzer. The NBR/MND composites exhibited superior mechanical property attributing to the stronger interfacial interaction via MPTMS linking between MND and NBR molecules compared to the NBR/ND composites that connected by weaker π-π stacking. |
