Biocompatibility of Water-Soluble Double-Layer Silane Encapsulated CdSe/ZnS Quantum Dots for Bio-Imaging |

Water-soluble double-layer silane (DLS) encapsulated CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) were prepared via encapsulation with silane coupling agent and evaluated the biocompatibility via cytotoxicity test and in vitro imaging. First, the QDs were encapsulated with alkoxysilanes via hydrophobic interaction and subjected to the second layer formation with 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (-APS). The DLS encapsulated QDs were characterized by UV-Vis, PL and TEM. The biocompatibility of DLS encapsulated QDs was evaluated by measuring their cytotoxicity via MTT assay with HeLa cells. In addition, the in vitro images of DLS encapsulated QDs uptaken in HeLa cells were obtained by fluorescent confocal microscopy. |
