Biodegradable cell-cross-linked hydrogels for tissue regeneration |

Hydrogels have been widely utilized in tissue engineering as they can be injected into the body in a minimal invasive manner. We developed biodegradable RGD-alginate/hyaluronate hydrogels in the presence of chondrocytes. Biodegradable RGD-alginate/hydrogels significantly enhanced cartilage formation 6 weeks post-injection into the dorsal of mice, in comparison with non-degradable gels, which was confirmed by analysis of GAG content and expression levels of chondrogenic marker genes. Biodegradable cell-cross-linked gels could find useful applications in many tissue engineering applications. |
