Introduction of a grafted architecture into a specific block of the linear diblock copolymers produces "comb-coil" type block copolymers (CCBCP). CCBCPs having an A-b-B-g-C type architecture are considered as a class of hybrid block copolymers that have the structural characteristics of both linear diblock copolymers and densely grafted polymers. In this study, a series of well defined PS-b-PBPEA-g-PMMA was synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization(ATRP). The linear diblock copolymers consisting of initiating sites on a specific block was obtained by activators regenerated by electron transfer for atom transfer radical polymerization(ARGET ATRP) of styrene, followed by ATRP of 2-(trimethylsilyloxy)ethyl acrylate (TMS-HEA), and deprotection and esterification of the hydroxyl groups. Grafting of PMMA via ATRP yielded the desired complex architecture. Characterization of synthesized polymers as well as their phase separation behavior will be discussed. |
