Poly(arylene ether ketone)s (PAEKs) were synthesized via direct step-growth polycondensation with pendant quaternary ammonium groups. N,N-Dimethylethyleneamine is used to react with PAEKs that contains carboxylic acid groups activated. Then, the quaternization method is used to develop pendant quaternary ammonium groups and alkalinization method is used to develop the membrane. As expectation, anion conductivity is an important characteristic of membrane. The chemical reaction for PAEKs and activation are determined by Nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) will characterize the quaternary ammonium poly(arylene ether ketone)s hydroxide (QAPAEKs-OH) and thermal properties of the membranes, respectively. For applications in alkaline fuel cells, the anion conductivity, water uptake, ion-exchange capacity (IEC), mechanical properties of he QAPAEKs-OH membranes were measure. |
