Synthesis and Characterization of Poly(phenylenedicyanovinylene) (PPCN2V) Derivatives for Organic Photovoltaic Cells |

Organic Photovoltaic cells (OPVs) have attracted much attention due to their potential in low-cost solar energy harvesting, as well as applications in flexible, light-weight, colorful and large-area devices. The cyano substituents greatly increase the electron affinity, while allowing for the tuning of the polymer properties via variation of the aryl rings. To improve the efficiency, the bulky dimethyldodecylsilylphenyl group was introduced into the meta position of the phenyl substituent, which inhibits the intermolecular interaction between the resulting polymer chains. We synthesized asymmetric and color tunable poly(p-phenylenedicyanovinylene) derivatives with a dimethyldodecylsilylphenyl pendant group, poly[2-(3'-(dimethyldodecylsilylphenyl)-1,4-phenylenedicyanovinylene] (m-SiPh PPCN2V) have been synthesized by a dehydrohalogenation method. |
