3E(Energy, Economics, Environments) analysis and multi-objective optimization of blue ammonia synthesis process |

Recently, ammonia has been used as a hydrogen carrier. As the hydrogen demand increases, the ammonia demand also tends to increase. Ammonia is produced through the Harbor-Bosch process developed in the early 1900s. Among the four Haber-Bosch technology licenses, the KBR process was selected to simulate the process. In the ammonia synthesis process, GHG (Green House Gas) emissions account for 1% of the world, highlighting the need to reduce GHG. Ammonia with reduced GHG using CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) was called “blue” ammonia. The process simulation used Aspen Plus and MATLAB was used to calculate the results. Energy analysis by Pinch analysis of Haber-Bosch process, economic analysis by TEA (Techno-economic analysis), and GWP (Global Warming Potential) by LCA (Life cycle assessment) were analyzed. Multi-objective optimization was performed by confirming the trade-off relationship in the TEA and LCA results. As a result of the optimization, the LCOA (Levelized Cost Of Ammonia) of blue ammonia was about 300 $/tNH3, and the GWP was about 0.3 tCO2/tNH3 and the energy was about 29 GJ/tNH3. |
