On-line leak detection reduces outage time, radiation dosages
An NRC working group is examining ways of improving leakage mitigation and monitoring requirements. The group has two goals: (1) to ensure that the requirements provide the ability to discriminate between reactor coolant system unidentified leakage and reactor coolant pressure boundary leakage and (2) to provide reasonable assurance that plants are not operated at power with reactor coolant pressure boundary leakage. Visual inspections aren't enough to ensure barrier integrity. Areva may have a better solution: FLUS, its automated leak-monitoring system.
