Plasma surface modification of polymer materials
Selected SBS elastomers (butadiene-styrene rubber, Finapren 435) were treated with low-T plasma generated in chlorine compounds pure (Cl-2, CHCl3, CCl4) or mixed with O-2 or Ar, in glow discharge 13.56 (RF) and 20-kHz (AF) reactors. Tear-off strength of joints formed with a polyurethane adhesive were higher than those achieved by conventional wet chemical methods. A 10-min plasma treatment of a Celgard 2500 polymer membrane improved the wettability and thus the permeability of the membrane to aqueous electrolytes.
