The characteristic data on waste carbide residue in the aspect of its reutilization
Phys.-chem. property data were detd. for the carbide residues, Ca(OH)(2), left from (a) Polish and (b) Swedish carbide used to make acetylene, including solids concn., particle size, bulk d, sp. surface, chem. compn., aq. bleedings compn., trace elements, and toxic gases (PH3, NH3, H2S, C2H2) evolving over 96 storage hours. The residues differed considerably in H2O, CaO, and trace elements contents, particle size, sp. surface, bulk d., and ignition loss. The a-and b-residue aq. eluates contained 20.67 and 1.07 mg ammonium N per I. The setting time of the a- was 1/4(th) that of the b-residue. Fertilization and other possible appIns. were considered.
