Methane was oxidized with O-2 at 1 atm. over SiO2 impregnated with Nb, V, Fe oxides or Se to yield CHOH and CO2 as the only products. The 5% Nb and the 5% Se were best, giving selectivities toward CHOH of 75 and 67%, resp.
