The use of selected physicochemical parameters and high-temperature gas chromatography for the identification of mineral base lubricant oils
Detn. of viscosity index and contents of S and satd. compds. requires 30-40 g oil to be examd. to assign the oil to an API group. High-temp. gas chromatograms (simulated distn. or SIMDIS technique), limiting d(20) and n(20) data enabled several base oils and mixts. thereof (semisynthetic) oils, 3-5 g, to be assigned to I-III, IV and V API Groups. Study comprised 16 oils. The method is environmentally safe.
