Porous prilled NH4NO3 used as a basic ingredient of industrial explosives was thermally treated to increase it porosity up to 20 Cm-3/100 g (fuel oil absorption). The microstructure of porous prills was observed by scanning electron microscopy. The detonation velocity increased significantly with the rise of prill porosity.
