Silicate gels were prepd. by addn. of HCOOH to water glass and studied for gelation time, viscoelastic properties and shrinkage behaviour at varying pH of the sol-gel transformation. The gels produced at pH 9.5-10.5 showed the best applicability for modification of permeability of petroleum reservoir rocks.
