Confinement effects in monomolecular perfluoropolyether liquid films on amorphous carbon surfaces
The mobility of unstirred molecularly thin perfluoropolyether liquid film Zdol, in contact with amorphous carbon surfaces, is investigated via surface capture (or bonding) kinetics. A transition in the Zdol film mobility from a solid-like to a liquid-like behavior is observed as a function of configuration entropy and temperature. The surface capture kinetics of the molecularly thin Zdol films is then compared to convectively well-stirred bulk Zdol on the same carbon surfaces. In both cases, non-classical surface capture dynamics characterized by a time-dependent rate coefficient is observed. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
