Opto-thermo actuation of multilayered liquid crystal polymer films
In this paper, we studied the bending behavior of thin films with multilayered structures composed of liquid crystal polymer networks (LCNs) and polymers (such as high-density polyethylene). By changing the coming direction of light, the structure shows interesting different reactions. Results show that the deflection of bending is not only related with the illumination intensity, temperature and decay distance of the LCN, but also with the relative thickness of the polymer thin films. These results can help us understand the mechanical properties of such a multilayered structure better. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
