High temperature oxidation resistance of the FeCrAl alloy after covering with SiO2-CeO2 coating
FeCrAl alloy substrate was covered with 1, 3 or 5 SiO2-CeO2 layers by sot-gel method (decompn. of Si(OEt)(4) and Ce(NO3)(4)). The coatings (Si:Ce = 3:1 - 1:3) were studied for oxidn. resistance at 1200 degrees C in air for 700 h and for thermal shocks resistance. Addn. of Ce resulted in improving the FeCrAl alloy resistance. The mass of the test pieces increased by 2.8-3.6% after oxidn. and by 0.4% after the thermal shocks.
