Flammability test of polyamide 6 modified with halogen free flame retardant
Polyamide 6 was compounded with a corn. phosphate-based fire retardant (10 or 15 phr) by extrusion, formed by injection molding, soaked in H2O at 20 degrees C for 24 h and studied for tensile strength and flammability. The polymer contg. 15 phr of the fire retardant was non-flammable. The presence of H2O in the polymer matrix resulted in decreasing its inflammability.
