adsorption Behavior and Molecular Structure of the Mixed Silane with a Crosslinking Additive on the E-Glass Mat

In order to improve the adhesion performance of silane coupling agent at the composite interphase region, 1,2-bis(trimethoxysilyl)ethane (BTE) was used as a crosslinking additive. The adsorption behavior and molecular structure of mixed silane onto the E-glass mat have been examined by diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) spectroscopy. In aqueous solution, BTE component adheres more easily to the surface of E-glass mat than γ-methacryloxypropyl-trimethoxysilane (γ-MPS) component of the mixed silane system. The adsorption selectivity and configuration of condensed mixture onto the E-glass mat strongly depend on the mole fraction of BTE component. In addition, the relationship between molecular structure of mixed silane and the solution pH was also investigated from the theoretical point of view.
