Automatic orientation measurements in TEM for studying Fe-Ni recrystallization mechanisms
Fe-36%Ni alloy deformed 95% has been examined in the TEM to determine its microtexture details. Both a manual approach to determine crystal orientation and a fully automated approach were carried out. Similar measures of the texture and grain size were produced using the two methods. The automated procedure was shown to provide reliable data up to a spatial resolution of 5 nm though an exact correspondence between the finer details with respect to dislocation distribution as seen in the TEM and small lattice rotations as depicted in the orientation image micrographs was not observed in all cases. The major texture components observed were {112}<111>, {001}<100> and {110}<112> with about 50% of the material lying in other orientations.
